We focus on community empowerment and leadership development through mental health wellness since 1975. Our organization has worked hand in hand with highly qualified personnel and community leaders in providing a wide range of human services in the Bay Area of Northern California. The organization addresses critical issues affecting primarily the Latino community while demonstrating best practices at all levels of service delivery.

One of the most attractive aspects of the organization is the commitment of a qualified, licensed, professional and dedicated staff that includes highly trained social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists working with a dynamic team of employees who are neighborhood residents and youth leaders. This unique approach enhances the daily operations of the organization making of La Familia, one of the most progressive of its kind in the Bay Area.

The focus on the family has been stressed at all levels of service delivery as many conditions affecting individuals have their roots in the manner in which people relate to each other within the family unit. At La Familia the personnel speaks a common language that stresses that the healing process can more effectively take place in the context of the family.

We know that our services are effective in helping families. We help them understand and to break away from repetitive

maladaptive behaviors that challenge many families particularly those with adolescents. This intense, high impact, short-term intervention is offered with the assistance of a highly trained clinical treatment team and by mobilizing a wide range of social service support to maximize treatment outcomes.

Local residents who are represented, by various Latin American and other ethnic communities find in our agency, professionals from the same communities. Most of the staff speak English and Spanish and many have a third language as well. It is well understood that culturally proficient treatment and interventions accelerate the healing process

Services at La Familia are multi-level and inter-disciplinary. Persons seeking our help can access any of the existing programs available at La Familia. Mental health services offered by the agency are sanctioned by funding agencies, Medi-Cal Quality Assurance protocol and by active regular open forums with residents of the community.

Our broad range of social and supportive services are coordinated with other La Familia programs and/or with a vast local network of committed local community human service agencies. Our services focus primarily on bringing psychological and socio-economic stability to families and individuals.
